She worked on the leather tooling for three sad- dles commissioned by the White House as state gifts to Prince Charles, Camilla, duch- ess of Cornwall, and Afghan President Hamid Karzai, said Mike Morrison, con- troller.

She also carved award sad- dles for the National Cutting Horse Association. Her more than 50 years of carving leather and teaching the craft and other work to preserve Western history and culture were recognized in 2006 with the Tad Lucas Me- morial Award from the Rodeo Historical Society of the Na- tional Cowboy Hall of Fame Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. Mrs. Fraser, known as Jerry to friends, was born in Big Spring and spent her early years in Corsicana, Arizona and New Mexico. In 1950, the family moved to Arkansas.

By then she was competing in barrel racing and other events and had met her future hus- band, Herman Houston Fraser, another rodeo rider. Doc Fraser opened a saddle shop in Rogers, and Mrs. Fraser taught herself to tool leather because her husband needed somebody to do the decorations, said June King, Mrs. daughter. The Frasers eventually moved the shop to Springdale, Ark.

The family moved to Ed- mond, in 1963 to go to work handling photo-finish equipment in the quarter- horse racing business. A year later, they landed in Parker County, then the location of Clear Fork Downs racetrack. Mrs. Fraser kept up with leath- er working and in 1973 got a job at a Cleburne saddle shop. One of fondest mem- ories of growing up was when the kids let her tame pet longhorn yearling into their house.
