Travel warning issued as bus station evacuated and road 'blocked' (2025)

Passengers are being warned to expect disruption after a bus station was evacuated.

Stockport Interchange has been evacuated this morning (April 23) due to a 'police exercise'.

There are changes being made to bus routes in the town centre, while Swaine Street has been 'blocked' according to the Inrix traffic monitoring service.

A Bee Network spokesperson said: "Due to a police exercise, Stockport Interchange is closed until further notice.

"As a result, bus services are departing from Stand S on Swaine Street on a load and go basis."

A post on Inrix added: "Swaine Street one way street blocked due to police incident from Daw Bank to Chestergate.

"Stockport Interchange has been evacuated for a police exercise."

Lucy Kennon, TfGM’s Head of Resilience and Business Continuity, said: "A scheduled evacuation drill took place at Stockport Interchange this morning to test the effectiveness of our emergency plans, identify any areas for improvement, and reinforce safety protocols among staff and visitors.

"Passengers present were helped by staff and we thank them for their cooperation and understanding during this important exercise, which we ran as part of our commitment to ensuring the safety of all those using and working on the Bee Network."

The exercise has now come to an end.
